The day opened with a warm welcome from Dr Kumeshan Reddy, Chairperson of the School of Engineering Postgraduate Studies Committee. Dr Reddy set the tone for an event focussed not just on theoretical success, but on the practical evolution of the engineering landscape. Prof Sudesh Rathilal, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Technology, address the delegates with a focus on the future. He provided powerful motivation regarding the importance of impactful research, highlighting how postgraduate contributions are essential to driving meaningful change in society and industry.

Following the overwhelming success of this first gathering, the School of Engineering intends for the symposium to become a hallmark annual event on the university calendar, cementing Nelson Mandela University’s role as a hub for engineering excellence
